- "Dr Marcello Mollica, Ph.D. in Social Sciences, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, 'The Management of Death and the Dynamics of an Ethnic Conflict: The Case of the 1980-81 Irish National Liberation Army (INLA) Hunger Strikes in Northern Ireland'. This is to confirm that Dr Mollica submitted an officicial summary of his Ph.D. thesis and a position paper entitled 'Challenges in Data Collection in a Violently Divided Society: the Northern Irish Case' on the relevance of his thesis in the field of Peace and Conflict Studies in the English Language, an official language of the European Union, his native language being Italian. He defended his position paper at an oral examination held at the EDEN Seminar/Intensive Programme at the University of Deusto, Bilbao, on 12 July 2007. It was the opinion of the Oral Examination Committee that Dr. Mollica conducted a successful defence on his position paper and that the award be conferred."
